Wylde Ride White Water Rafting & Cycling Holidays

On the 15 February 2011, Wylde Ride and the Mkomazi River played host to the winners of the USN Spike Extreme Sports Adventure Challenge. With the winners completing 19 adventure activities in 7 days, Wylde Ride saw to their water rush as they completed their 5th day by rafting 14km of the biggest white water in South Africa.

The afternoon as hot and the river running at 1.55m. The competition winners; Malcolm (with mate Clive) and Renier (with wife Antoinette) manned their 2-man crocs and were thrust into the deepend , so to speak. Starting off with fist rock the team was introduced to stopper waves and holes and all made it through unscathered.

After a bit of a respite it was into The Approaches, again the team showed their skills and balance by staying upright in in the rafts. There were a few close calls as some viewed the pour overs up close.

No. 1 was on a nice form with deep troughs that all but hid the crocs at times. All made it through, but with ample big eyes and flayling limbs. Congrats to Antoinette and Avril who not only shot it backwards, staying in their raft, but did it with such style.

Shortly after No. 1 we had our first swimmers as Malcolm and Clive misjudged a pourover. No. 1.5 claimed another two rafts as Anine and Rion vanished into a hole sideways and Avril and Antoinette capsized on the final pourover.

No. 2 proved fun for everyone with the crews navigating the rapids with ease. The advent of 11 stitch rock saw a second swim for Malcolm and Clive with Malcolm enjoying a gentle kiss and a cuddle with the retainer.

Our last swimmer of the day was camerman Jonny who took the plunge at Surf City, the rest of the crews surfed through unscathed. The cushion wave at No. 3 was no match for the tired winners as they shot it with ease.
